Commence the fence.

Project number one was fencing in our yard for our pup Molly to enjoy. This was much easier said than done. We picked the hottest weekend of the year to commence the fence building. It took all hands on deck and 3 long days of blood, sweat, and sun burns but we could not be more pleased with the finished project! Big shout out to my awesome dad (this will be a common theme throughout my posts) for being head honcho on this project! Beers and dinner was definitely not enough payment for all this hard work.

Fence building went like this:

Day 1: Digging. This seemed like an easy task considering we had a gas powered fence post digger, but turns out our yard is sitting on top of thick layers of slate rock that was no match for the digger. It took my dad and Ryan up to an hour per hole (22 holes) alternating between the digger machine and manually chipping at the rock steel rod. Not to mention the 95 degree sun beating down on them the entire time. These guys are troopers!

Day 2: Cementing. This day was filled with many trips to Lowe’s and my mom and I loading and unloading 50 bags of cement, mixing each bag in a wheel barrow and pouring it into the holes. Hello bridal-ready arm workout!

Day 3: Measure and Cut. By this point the four of us were operating like a well-oiled machine. Mom brought the boards from the truck to the yard, Ryan and I would measure and mark. My dad would make the cuts and then Ryan and I would clamp and screw the boards down.

We are so happy the fence and Molly loves her new yard! And now we are able to start up the dog-sitting business we have been thinking about and we will have a safe play area for our many furry guests.
